Gynecomastia is the excessive growth of the male breast. Although this condition is known to be rare, in fact it is very frequent. Gynecomastia may affect one or both breasts. Especially during adolescence, many boys of 13-15 years old may have gynecomastia. Generally, without the need for a treatment, it gets lost within 1-2 years and should be followed in this period. Gynecomastia is generally corrected by the liposuction operation. Seldomly it may be necessary to remove skin from the upper part of the breast in excessively large breasts. The operation can be conducted under general anesthesia or light sedation together with local anesthesia.
Regardless of what liposuction surgery method is used, the patient can go home 3-4 hours after the operation. Painkillers and antibiotic usage may be necessary after the operation. The corset is worn for 2-3 weeks because it is important for decreasing edema and reshaping. Patients return to their normal daily life after the operation. They are warned not to do hard sport activities in the first month.
